The congregation was formed by local settlers in the 1850's.  The first known pastor was the Reverend J.H. Perry in 1870.  Among early members were the families of Isacc Steen, J. Hogue Pierson, J.R. Eidson, Thomas Dean and Dr. George F. Perry.

Pioneer ministers in the Waco Circuit braved hostile Indians to serve this church.  In 1871, a band of Indians stole the horse of William Monk at Indian Creek, forcing him to walk twelve miles to Brownwood.

Members worshipped in various places, then built a frame church on this site about 1887.  The present structure was erected in 1924 and the Sunday School wing was added in 1953.

Rev. Matt Hall was appointed as the 72nd minister to serve this congregation at the General Conference in June 2008. In our 154 years in existence we have been fortunate to have had so many faithful ministers to serve this congregation. Some of these pastors have served only one year while others have served 2-5 years. Rev. James Ballard set the record by ministering to us for six years.

Our Methodist system has worked very well for us, having one minister move out and another minister move in the same day. This way we are never without a minister to guide us. We want to express our sincere appreciation to Pastor James for his leadership and pray that Rev. Matt hall’s ministry will be effective for all or us.
